About the event

From primary school, where he first discovered his talent for poetry, Cheyne Jones has journeyed into the world of music with a passion that burns brightly. His early fascination with poetry seamlessly married his love for music, leading him down the path of songwriting.

In 2014, Cheyne made a pivotal move in his career by teaming up with his former schoolmate, Ian 'Iweb' Webster. Together, they formed the prolific songwriting duo known as the WaterstreetBoyz. This partnership proved to be a dynamic force in the music industry, showcasing Cheyne's exceptional ability to weave words into compelling musical narratives.

Over just nine years, Waterstreet Boyz have etched their names in the annals of Barbadian songwriting history. Their accolades are a testament to their skill and dedication. In recent years, the duo has consistently dominated the Pic-O-De-Crop competition. Their achievements include:

· Pic-O-De-Crop Wins: first place in 2014, 2017, 2022, and 2023.

· Multiple Top 5 Placements: In 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2022, they secured various top positions, demonstrating versatility and consistency.

· Sweet Soca: A commendable second-place finish in 2015.

· Junior Monarch: Champions in 2017, 2018 and 2019, showcasing their ability to resonate with a younger audience.

· Songwriter of the Year: Awarded in 2019, 2022, and 2023, a crowning achievement that highlights Cheyne's exceptional talent and hard work.

The duo's remarkable consistency is evident, with multiple finalists in the Pic-O-De-Crop competition across several years.

Cheyne's love for calypso music has always been the cornerstone of his creativity. He spent countless days during his teenage years immersing himself in the world of calypso, attending Pic-O-De-Crop rehearsals, and seeking out performances. This deep-rooted passion is evident in every piece of music he writes, making him not just a songwriter but a true storyteller of the calypso world.

In Cheyne Jones, the music industry has found not just a songwriter but a cultural practitioner who continues to push the boundaries of creativity and storytelling in music. His journey is a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
